News & Events Meet the Partners: the 18 organisations building a secure, AI-native 6G Eighteen partners. Nine countries. One question: what will it take to make 6G trustworthy by design?  Pioneering AI-enhanced SEcure 6G Services framework (PAISES – 6G) began on 1 June 2026 as a three-year Research and Innovation Action funded by the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) under Horizon Europe.  Coordinated by Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, the project brings together an €8.6 million consortium to answer a question the telecommunications sector can no longer defer: how do we build the next generation of mobile networks so that security, privacy and intelligence are designed in from the first line of code, rather than retrofitted after the first breach? Today we are publishing a series of eighteen short videos, one for each partner in the consortium. In each, a lead representative introduces their organisation, explains the expertise they bring to PAISES-6G, and sets out what they hope the project will change. We would encourage you to watch them. Not because eighteen videos is a tidy number, but because taken together they show something a project summary cannot: the sheer range of disciplines that a credible 6G security agenda now demands. Why this consortium Look at the composition of the group and a deliberate design becomes visible. Two major European network operators — TIM and Telefónica — ensure that whatever PAISES-6G builds is measured against the realities of running a commercial network at scale, not against laboratory assumptions. Seven SMEs carry a disproportionate share of the innovation. Small, specialised firms in Cyprus, France, Italy, Poland and the United Kingdom are typically the fastest route from a research result to a deployable product — and the most exposed if that route is blocked. Their presence is what turns research outputs into exploitable results. Universities and research institutes in Spain, Italy, Germany and Ukraine supply the depth: federated learning, programmable data planes, game-theoretic intrusion detection, applied cryptography. Dedicated security and quantum specialists address the threats that general-purpose network engineering tends to underestimate — from software protection and cryptographic key management to quantum key distribution over live metropolitan infrastructure. An ethics, legal and socio-economic team is embedded in the technical work rather than bolted on at the end, assessing GDPR and AI Act compliance, environmental impact and social value as the technology is designed. And crucially, the consortium arrives with a network of interconnected testbeds already in place — industrial 5G environments, network digital twin laboratories, quantum communication infrastructure, programmable 100 Gbps platforms, open-source core network deployments and beyond-5G IoT platforms — linked into a single distributed testbed. Ideas can be tested against real hardware from early in the project, not in its final months. Nine countries, eighteen organisations, one shared conviction: that Europe should not have to choose between networks that are intelligent and networks that are trustworthy. Meet the people building them.

Paper Accepted at IEEE CSCN 2026

News & Events PAPER ACCEPTED at IEEE CSCN 2026 Project Overview Our paper “An AI-Enhanced Framework for Secure and Trustworthy 6G Services: The PAISES-6G Approach” has been accepted for Special Session 4 AI-Nativeness for 6G: Architectures and Technologies at the IEEE Conference on Standards for Communications and Networking 2026. The premise is simple to state and hard to engineer: in an open, multi-vendor 6G software supply chain, no AI/ML model or network function should be trusted by default. PAISES-6G treats security, trust and privacy as first-class Security Services with explicit attributes, policies and SLAs, not properties verified after the fact. The paper sets out a functional architecture in which trustworthiness is established from three sources of evidence: Pre-deployment validation against a Network Digital Twin, on synthetic, privacy-preserving data Blockchain-backed attestation of the model’s supply chain and runtime integrity Collaborative threat intelligence shared across administrative domains That evidence gates a zero-touch deployment decision, alongside a QKD SDN controller for quantum-safe operation and a privacy-preserving JCAS and telemetry module. We evaluate the approach across three illustrative use cases: industrial IoT, global security, and network dynamics. CSCN is the right venue for this work. Standards are where architectural intent becomes interoperable reality, and the gaps we identify, particularly around the hardening of Secure Application and Key Management Entities left unspecified in current ETSI QKD interfaces. These are standardisation questions as much as research ones. Congratulations to our co-authors across the consortium!!! Paper details and open-access version will be available soon. Stay tuned!!!

PAISES-6G Launches: Pioneering AI-Enhanced Security for the 6G Era – Copy

News & Events PAISES-6G Launches: Pioneering AI-Enhanced Security for the 6G Era The PAISES-6G consortium has officially launched, with its official Kick-off Meeting on the 10-11 June 2026 in Madrid, Spain, hosted by project coordinator Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) led by Prof Pablo Serrano.  The meeting brought together all 18 partner organisations from nine countries to align on objectives, governance and the technical roadmap for the three years ahead, marking the formal start of this exciting collaborative research and innovation. The meeting took place in the same week as the opening of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, in which Spain went on to be crowned champions. We congratulate Spain on this achievement, and look forward to the consortium bringing the same ambition to secure 6G research over the years ahead. Project Overview PAISES-6G — Pioneering AI-enhanced SEcure 6G Services framework — is a 36-month Research and Innovation Action co-funded by the European Union through the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) under Grant Agreement No. 101292896. Running from June 2026 to May 2029, the project develops next-generation 6G infrastructures that are robust, secure and intelligent, weaving AI/ML into the network to strengthen privacy, enable quantum-ready encryption, and support zero-touch automated defence against evolving cyber threats. The project advances secure network management through the zero-touch deployment of AI algorithms across federated domains, reducing human error while helping networks manage growing complexity and increasingly sophisticated threats. This is complemented by AI-driven cyber threat intelligence using autonomous Large Language Model (LLM) agents that anticipate network anomalies rather than merely reacting to them, all underpinned by an ethics-by-design approach aligned with the EU AI Act and GDPR. In total, the consortium will deliver more than 14 innovative solutions, validated through three Proof-of-Concept demonstrations: AI-supported Industrial IoT (on the Gotham testbed), privacy-preserving networking (on the 5TONIC testbed), and global security spanning quantum key distribution to cyber threat intelligence (on a federated PAISES-6G testbed). PAISES-6G brings together 18 partner organisations from 9 countries, spanning leading operators, research institutes, technology SMEs and universities.
